The release period for suspending the sentence of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been extended for an additional 6 months under the previous two conditions. The Ministry of Law has provided its opinion on extending the release period, and it is currently in the process of being sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque informed reporters about this development at the secretariat on Wednesday.
Responding to inquiries regarding Khaleda Zia`s permanent release and her family`s request for overseas treatment, Minister Haque stated that the recent application, similar to previous ones, sought both permanent release and permission for travel abroad.
He reiterated that the law only allows actions within the conditions outlined under Section 401 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Khaleda Zia, convicted in two corruption cases, has been in prison since February 8, 2018. The former prime minister has served more than two years of her sentence.
